Help! I have just used a cotton ear bud in my ear and now I can't hear! It sounds like you may have pushed ear wax further into your ear or the cotton bud has come off in your ear canal. For either situation lie down and fill your ears with vegetable oil or olive oil, stay there about 20 minutes. Roll over let it drain onto a tissue and do the other ear. Do this once a day for three days prior to your appointment.

Why do I cough and my eyes water when the ear nurse is cleaning my ears? This is called the Arnold reflex and is normal. For some the ear is sensitive even to the ear speculum or when wax and debris is lifted from the canal. We advise prep your ears with oil to loosen the wax before your appointment. For some patients counting numbers out loud during the ear cleaning reduces the sensation of coughing. Can you do ear impressions for my audiologist? Yes, just click on 'book now' above.
